What is cooperix.net?

Cooperix.net is a co-location facility in the Ottawa area. We offer hosting services specifically aimed at open-source users and projects. This includes remote power control, remote console support, IPv6, and services such as secondary DNS servers and outgoing mail relays.

In addition to the above, we also offer virtual hosts (Xen and User-Mode-Linux), or we can provision a full system for your use.

We specialize in providing service to open-source users, that is people using Linux, NetBSD, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and OpenSolaris. The reason for this is that we find these system to be more secure, more stable, and requiring less fidling around.

Most of our customers want to spend as little time in the data centre as possible, and many do remote upgrades of software, sometimes even entire operating system re-installs from remote locations. Our facilities are particularly useful to software developers that need to deploy alpha or beta versions of their systems into a production-type environment, and yet be able to deal with the inherent lack of control that comes with lack of simple physical access.

This is essentially what lead us to form cooperix --- we are open source developers and we needed our own place to put our infrastructure systems. But, being authors of major components of the infrastructure, it behooves us to actually run our own code.

Having talked about lots of access to unstable systems, we should emphasize that for the infrastructure of cooperix.net itself, we use production releases on solid hardware.
